We accept fee-for-service clients and provide super bills for clients seeking reimbursement from their health insurance company. We are expected to be in-network with the following health insurances: United Health Care (Optum), Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia, & Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas insurance plans by September, 2026.
Out of Network or Fee For Service
Are there any advantages to paying for services out-of-pocket rather than using health insurance?
-
Privacy: your mental health care, psychotherapy notes, and any relevant psychiatric diagnoses will not be shared with your health insurance company. This information will not become part of your or your child's medical record unless you request Dr. Johnston to work with your child's medical provider and share relevant diagnoses.
-
Insurer control over treatment: Insurance companies can limit the number of sessions, require pre-authorization, or conduct utilization reviews where they request clinical notes to justify continued care. Private pay allows you and the psychologist to determine clinical needs for you or your child.
