Does telepsychology work? What if I want in-person services?

  • Research has shown that youth benefit from telepsychology in similar ways to in-person therapy.

  • Are there any benefits of telepsychology?

    • Yes!

    • Telepsychology allows individuals to engage in therapy from the comfort of their home. We understand that illness, youth schedules, balancing multiple appointments throughout the week, and family logistics sometimes make attending in-person therapy sessions challenging.

    • Telepsychology also helps increase access to services. It can be challenging for families to find a local provider with doctoral-level training and expertise treating youth with chronic medical conditions.

  • Do you offer in-person services?

    • At this time, Adaptive Health Psychology PLLC does not offer in-person therapy services. Dr. Johnston plans to offer in-person services for individuals willing to travel to the greater Tampa Bay area in 2027.

  • What if my child has problems paying attention?

    • There are a number of different methods Dr. Johnston utilizes to keep children and youth engaged in virtual therapy. Dr. Johnston utilizes a variety of methods to help youth benefit the most from their time. Examples include live demonstrations, skill practice, game-based therapy techniques, taking short breaks when needed, and involving caregivers in their child's therapy sessions to support attention and skill development.
